Our bodies never stop changing! Later In later life when oestrogen hormones start to decrease. This initial stage of lowered oestrogen is called ‘perimenopause’, while ‘menopause’ refers to the stage when periods stop. This process usually starts between the ages of 45 and 55 and ‘early menopause’ is the term used when these changes take place before the age of 45. 

Women will often experience symptoms of menopause before their periods stop. The symptoms are often vague: dry skin and hair, vaginal dryness, aching joints, hot flushes, disturbed sleep, and irregular periods, to name a few. It can help to be ‘menopause aware’, because just knowing the reason for unfamiliar symptoms can help women to navigate more confidently through the menopause.
